Arlene Swartzman, Ph.D., President

Arlene Swartzman, Ph.D., brings over 25 years of experience in the public and private sectors to facilitate the business, professional and organizational communication goals of her clients. As president and CEO of Larketing, Inc., she provides research and report writing, document development, and workshops and online courses that focus on employee and organizational communication needs.   These efforts have been noted for their

Lark Communications (the former business name of Larketing) was founded in 1990; in 2009, it became known as Larketing, Inc. The focus has been and is on print and electronic documents, in-house research reports, business and public information documents, public planning documents, grant and proposal writing, and sales, training, and instruction manuals.

For the past 14 years, Arlene has also taught university level courses in the following areas:

  • Developmental writing,
  • Argumentation and advanced public speaking,
  • Business and professional writing,
  • Grant and proposal writing,
  • Technical communication,
  • Research and report writing,
  • Group leadership, and
  • Organizational and interpersonal communication.

Representative projects include

  • The 1991 risk communication videotape, “A Parents’ Guide to Asbestos in Our Schools,” funded by the U.S. Department of Environmental Protection Agency and the Illinois Department of Energy and Natural Resources and marketed and distributed to public and private school districts in all fifty states and the US territories
  • Research reports on crime and urban transportation (1995) for the Institute for Metropolitan Affairs
  • The 2006 curriculum guide, “Proposal and Grant Writing,” developed for the 80 undergraduate campuses of DeVry University as a core course in their Technical Communication program.

Her business and industry expertise includes:

  • Sales and marketing in the health insurance industry,
  • General partner of several small real estate investment partnerships,
  • Health planning with the City of Chicago, and
  • Grants administration with the State of Illinois

Dr. Swartzman holds advanced degrees from the University of Chicago (MA in Social Service Administration), Northern Illinois University (MAPA in public administration and political science), and Northwestern University (Ph.D. in communication studies).  She is a member of the National Communication Association and the American Society for Training and Development.
